Natural Healing Remedies

Curing everyday problems

What are your thoughts on homeopathy? does it work or not?

I take homeopathic remedies for a number of things, arnica for strains is a good example. Do you think it works and if no why not? And if like me you find it does work, why do you think that is?
people do realize that according to the British medical journal, and i quote, "over 50% of what doctors do has no scientific evidence or proof to back it up"

Hi

Good question. Yes it does work as otherwise 450 million people worldwide wouldn’t be using it. Why does it work? Well there are many reasons for that IMHO.

1. It attempts to treat the cause of dis-ease – whether that be on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level. If the cause of the illness was grief for example then homeopathy can treat this cause or if the cause was that you suffered a head injury homeopathy can address this cause.

2. Homeopath’s individualise their treatment, so two people with a headache may not get the same remedy, this allows the remedy to be more specific to your complaint, and thus increases it’s efficacy.

3. Homeopathic remedies work with the body and not against it. Allopathic, conventional medicines do not work with the body but rather against it and thus creates further dis-ease in the body. With homeopathy you are working with the body’s own energy system to re-harmonise the body. It is very difficult to suppress symptoms with homeopathy whereas with allopathic meds. they regularly suppress symptoms – causing further, deeper disease within the body.

4. Homeopath’s use symptoms as a key to finding the medicine and do not see them as the dis-ease itself. We use them as the body’s way of telling us what is wrong, and this guides us to the correct medicine.

5. Homeopathic remedies have no toxic side effects and thus do not place the body under more stress than it already is.

6. Homeopath’s listen to their patients and give them a safe space to discuss their problems. They take all of this into account when prescribing a medicine.

Hope that goes someway to answering your question.

Homeopathy is quackery and there is no science to support it. Just because you benefit from the placebo effect does not mean that it works. Strains heal naturally, so it’s retarded to say that drinking some mystery water that supposedly "remembers" some healing element is to credit for getting better.

Homeopathy is a discredited pseudoscience that has never been found to work. It’s principle that "like cures like" goes against logic and everything we know about science. There is no evidence for it and it would be a waste of time and money to use it.

The reason why you feel better with arnica for your strain is because strains heal and go away by themselves. Even if you didn’t take arnica, you would eventually feel better. There is also something called the placebo effect.

edit: 50% of what I do has no scientific basis? Can you cite examples please? If I did anything that has no basis in science, I would end up losing my license and practice.

    It cannot possibly work.

Buy two different bottles of ‘homeopathic remedies’. Remove the labels then go to a homeopath and ask them to tell you the difference between the two. They will not be able to. In fact, nobody can, as they are both pure water! The reason it’s just pure water is explained here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeopathy#High_dilutions

Any benefit is purely placebo or/and regression to the mean. As the doc has said, you’re going to get better anyway (and so live to tell us the ‘benefits’!)

Enjoy the placebo effect, but don’t confuse yourself that your health is anything to do with some kind of magic water!

I’ve seen it work. I’ve seen it fail. Just like Allopathy, which has it’s claim to fame as being proven and "approved". Allopathy IS better for some things. Homeopathy is better for other things, especially in the long run.
I’m really busy this weekend, so I don’t have the time to banter with the bullies that would try and prevent anyone from pursuing their own health choices and would rather that we be back in the stone age…(because most of what has been accomplished in this world was done so despite the skeptics threatening cataclysmic results and/or death would befall anyone who dared stray from ‘what is known at this time.) And never mind, that many advances and resultant studies STARTED with anecdotal observances.
    Thank you for your question.

Homeopathy works because it has been calculated scientifically. It is a system of medicine governed by laws that began with an hypotheses, progressed to an experiment that has yielded the same the results time and time again for over two hundred years. Not only that, but when practiced according to its clearly defined laws and principles it has continued to heal patients for the same amount of time.

The fact that the denialists don’t like this truth does not make it less evident. Any fool can see that they have tried to bend the basic rules of science in order to con the common man into thinking that what is true is false. Anyone who has ever experienced its healing power knows it. Homeopathy works. It’s time to face facts.

Alex’s answer is sound. The basic answer is that it has worked for many, many millions over the last 220 years, and is working for many millions of people throughout the world today. It worked for me over 30 years ago when I was very sceptical; and more recently with another condition.

The safety factor is also important – homeopathy is an entirely safe medical therapy.

But homeopathy is quite a complex therapy too in that there is not usually one remedy for a single condition. And the more long-term, or serious your condition, the more important it is to find a good, registered homeopath. You can find one here

    Good luck.

Well, yes I believe that it works, and works remarkably well. As others have noted there is a philosophical basis for this protocol. This is something that allopathic medicine sorely lacks. Further, theories were created and tested out in the most acute and scrutinizing manner. Results were replicated over and over again by many people in many countries with many different health conditions. The theory of homeopathy is borne out by practice and good results.

As in any system that includes a subjective element, there is room for error. Thus, there are some people who have not been helped. However, many times it is the lack of patience on the part of the ill person that is at fault. In anything we do, persistence and a following through is required to see good results. This a a simple truth that applies to most everything we do in life. And it is also true of allopathic medicine where patients quit quickly.

One of the better things with homeopathy though, unlike in allopathic medicine, there are no new diseases that result from treatment. There are no harmful effects. And there are no untimely deaths as allopathic medicines own statistics have accumulated in the hundreds of thousands per year.

Since it is usually money that provokes such rabid reactions as we see in the denialists, I have to ask about their connection to the big pharmaceutical corporations that are waging a major war for control of all health care. Not very democratic of them, now is it? The Codex Alimentarius that has the impudence and hubris to state that nutrition has nothing to do with health, is heavily controlled by these drug corporations. There, the goal clearly is to do away with the very idea of anything natural in life and to put all life under patented control of these very few corporations controlling food, nutrition and health.

So, for all the railing against homeopathy that these people do, I would ask what is their vested interest in big pharma or its cohorts, big agra or big chema. Democratic principles insist that people be allowed freedom of health choice. So are these people also anti-democracy?

Yes, homoeopathy works. You use Arnica as an example and this remedy is the first remedy to consider when an accident occurs – as in a strain. There are other homoeopathic remedies which are more specific to a strain, Ruta being one. So, after intially taking Arnica, you could then move on to Ruta which has an affinity to muscles/ligaments/tendons. You have received excellent replies to your query: ‘If you find it does work, why do you think that is?’ so I will not repeat. I was treated for many years with prescription drugs since I was always suffering with one symptom or another… I had experienced much distress from one particular symptom for quite some time and the medical profession said there was nothing they could do and I must learn to live with the situation. A colleague introduced me to homoeopathy and, ten days after my first consultation with a qualified homoeopath, I began to feel better. The symptoms disappeared and have never returned. That was fifteen years’ ago – a cure I think…! I don’t much mind if the sceptics disagree. I am symptom free and feel well and this is good enough for me.
